The offline dino game is itself an easter egg — a hidden gift on Chrome's "No Internet" page. Over the years its creators have tucked extra surprises inside it. Here are the special touches worth knowing about, plus what you will find in this browser version.
The birthday surprise
To celebrate Chrome turning ten in 2018, the game gained a birthday theme: a cake appears in the desert, and reaching it drops a party hat onto the dinosaur. It was a small, delightful nod to the game's own anniversary.
The Olympic torch
For the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, a torch easter egg transformed the run: reaching the torch turned the dino into a series of Olympic events, swapping the usual cacti and birds for themed challenges. Like most of these touches, it was a limited-time addition.
Day and night
The most reliable "hidden" feature is the automatic day-to-night flip. As your score climbs, the desert darkens and then brightens again on a cycle. It changes the mood without changing the difficulty — and yes, our version includes it.
The score rollover
The score counter is capped at 99,999, after which it rolls back to zero. Because the game never stops accelerating, almost no human reaches it legitimately, which is part of its mystique.
