The little running dinosaur goes by a surprising number of names. If you've searched for it, you've probably typed at least two different ones. Here's what each name means.
The common names
- Dinosaur Game / Dino Game — the plain, most-used name.
- T-Rex Game / T-Rex Runner — after the Tyrannosaurus you control.
- Chrome Dino — because it lives inside Google Chrome.
- No Internet Game / Offline Dino Game — it appears when you lose connection.
- chrome://dino — the address you type to open it directly.
The codename: Project Bolan
During development the game was nicknamed "Project Bolan," after Marc Bolan of the glam-rock band T. Rex — a nod to the dinosaur you play. More on that in our history of the dino game.
There's no single "official" title — Google's own materials mostly just call it the Dinosaur Game. Every other name is a nickname players gave it.
